In Response to New Zealand Massacre, Islamic Center of Tri-Cities Holding Interfaith Prayer Vigil (Richland, WA, 3/20/19) – Islamic Center of Tri-Cities is holding on interfaith vigil after the massacre of 50 worshipers in an Islamophobic attack on two mosques in Christchurch, New Zealand. Guest speakers include the Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Washington (CAIR-WA), Masih Fouladi.

The event will be held on Saturday, March 23rd from 7:30 PM – 9:30 PM at the Islamic Center of Tri-Cities in West Richland, WA.

WHAT: Interfaith Prayer Vigil for Victims of NZ Shootings
WHERE: Islamic Center of Tri-Cities, 2900 Bombing Range Rd, West Richland, WA 99353
WHEN: Saturday, March 23rd, 7:30 – 9:30 PM

“This is a time of tragedy and trauma, said Ridha Mabrouki of the Islamic Center of Tri-Cities. “But it’s also an opportunity for healing and solidarity. It’s more important now than ever that we come together as a community, Muslim and non-Muslim alike, to stand against hate and intolerance. Washington is a great state where people of all faiths and backgrounds should feel safe and welcome.”

Masih Fouladi, Executive Director of CAIR-WA, had the following to say about the attacks on the New Zealand mosques:

“We are grieving with our sisters and brothers in New Zealand. This type of violent hate is unacceptable anywhere and particularly horrifying in a house of worship. No one should ever feel afraid while practicing their faith,” said Fouladi. “Let’s make sure we turn this moment of solidarity to action and connect the dots between Islamophobia anywhere and this sort of violence.”

The program will include an interfaith prayer, a moment of silence for the victims, and remarks from community and faith leaders including the Executive Director of the Council on American-Islamic Relations of Washington (CAIR-WA), Masih Fouldai.

Community members of all backgrounds are welcome to join. This is an opportunity to stand together as a community against hate and learn about how to turn our grief and anger into action.
